Aging Unhoused Clients to Receive Specialized Care

Lutheran Foundation Grant Provides Critical Support

Peter & Paul is launching a program this month to give some extra TLC to our clients aged 50 and up. Adults who are homeless experience premature aging and chronic conditions at similar (or higher) rates than housed adults 15-20 years their senior. Sadly, this means that at age 50, an unhoused adult would be aged similarly to a housed 65-year-old.

“We look forward to the opportunity to help these clients learn how to find and navigate the resources intended for them to regain their health, housing, and financial stability,” said Anthony D’Agostino,
PPCS CEO.

We will be hiring a full-time staff member focused on clients at our Jugan Shelter on the Community Campus. The person will provide specialized case management, assessments and referrals to targeted housing, healthcare resources, and on-site occupational therapy.

This new program was made possible through funds awarded by the Lutheran Foundation. “We are so grateful for the investment by the Lutheran Foundation to provide this much needed specialized attention,” said D’Agostino.

People 55 and older account for one in three of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. Already a significant population within the unhoused community, these older adults are likely to continue to become an even larger portion of those needing shelter and affordable supported housing at PPCS.
